Apple is now the world’s largest technology company, after overtaking Microsoft in market capitalization Wednesday (May 26 2010).

Yahoo has been working to focus on its core businesses — creating and licensing content, selling online ads and providing messaging services — while turning to partners to run some of its other offerings. It’s a great way to do business and is the new emerging trend in closer corporate service trading. Companies are staying focused on their core competencies and partnering where needed.

Apple has introduced its latest fourth generation iPhone OS. The iPhone 4.0 OS was much awaited and Apple introduced more than 100 features including one high on everyone’s wish list, multithreading (running more than one application at the same time).

AndroidLib.com reports that around 9,331 new mobile apps were added to the Android Market in March 2010. This is the biggest number of apps added to the Android App store for a given month, since it launched. In December 2009 the number of new apps added were around 3,800. Then in January 2010, these number increased to 5,500.

It is my opinion that Apple appreciates that it cannot control the entire eBook market on the iPad, so rather than building closed walled garden, they are offering the easiest and best eBook experience using their iBook Store.

The iPad was announced by Apple on Jan 27 2010. The product is revolutionary and will change the face of tablet computing. It marks a new class of product that is sandwiched between the Smartphone and the Laptop and opens new opportunities for application development and mobile services. Apple plans to release an iPhone this year that will work on Verizon network. In the US (March 2010), the iPhone is only available on the AT&T network. Apple’s shares rose as high as $237.48 USD on March 30 (1.3%). Apple’s stock has jumpled by 13 per cent in March 2010.

The challenge for RIM is to appeal to consumers, especially in North America. North Americans expect a faster web experience and easier access to software applications while RIM competes with the rapidly emerging iPhone and Android smartphones platforms.
